James 'Sonny' Crockett; A seasoned hardcore veteran of the rough-and-tumble Vice Squad. His original partner, Eddie Rivera, and of course, Ricardo 'Rico' Tubbs; A hip, black, brassy New York street cop, who rolls into Miami packing only his wits, a suitcase full of counterfeit cash, and a sawed-off shotgun. Crockett and Tubbs are on a collision course. And someone''s going to get burned. We find out about his family, his cover, his alligator Elvis, and his beloved car, the Ferrari Daytona Spyder. The Vice squad entering a darker and glitter reality. The season takes a hard start with Liam Neeson blowing up the apple of Crockett's eye; his beloved Daytona Spyder. Crockett the cuts is hair short and starts driving a white Testarossa. Tubbs is growing a beard. Lieutenant Martin Castillo turns into a private, unemotional man. To the detectives Crockett and Tubbs their superior is strangely intimidating, but astonishingly efficient and almost ruthlessly dedicated. Nothing seems to pierce his armour or his ice-cold composure. Even the music takes on a harder edge. (Note: The original air dates of the episodes are out of order in terms of when they were produced. They originally intended to show "El Viejo" as the 3rd season opener, and decided that a dramatic event like blowing up the Daytona would make a "When Irish Eyes Are Crying" better season premiere episode. Thus, the opening few episodes of the 3rd season are seen out of order, production-wise.)

When detectives Crockett and Tubbs go under cover, they ride a razor's edge of danger where no one is to be trusted and even friends can turn out to be deadly enemies. A strange and sick ride. Some of the focus is back in many of the episodes, episode "A Bullet for Crockett" seems to be one 45:minutes long season highlight show. "Welcome to Hell". Resurrection and Redemption. The first several episodes conclude the arc begun halfway through last season. Some episodes lost direction as well as Crockett and Tubbs mystic wardrobe choices - still no socks in them loafers. Thanks to Crocketts 'new' haircut he now looks more like a Czechoslovakian icehockeyplayer than a flashy undercovercop. It seems to me he uses shampoo and conditioner together with a hair-drier on a regular daily basis. The feel of the earlier seasons is lost with the departure of musician Jan Hammer (But thank God that the Vice-intro still was on). Miami Vice detectives Crockett and Tubbs are pushed to the outer limits of their endurance by their most dangerous missions ever. It's the ultimate stress test and if one partner cracks, both will die. The way is paved for potential pilots, and an end to the show.
